TAFEs and bricklaying colleges throughout Australia have been invited by the CMAA NSW Committee, in co-operation with TAFE NSW, to participate in the 10th Biennial Golden Trowel Award.

The 2011 event is being held in Newcastle at the NSW TAFE Hunter Institute, on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 September, beginning with a welcome barbecue and briefing session at the college on Sunday evening 18 September 2011.

TAFEs and colleges in NSW that teach brick/blocklaying have been invited to participate as well as a team from ACT, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania.

A three-person team from each college will comprise a class teacher, a Stage 2 student and a Stage 3 student.
A project brief will be provided, incorporating a task requiring a quantity of concrete blocks — a package of concrete blocks will be provided to each team.

Each team will be judged on a prescribed marking scale by industry experts.
The Golden Trowel perpetual trophy will be presented to the winning team at an Industry Dinner. Team members will receive a personalised trophy.

Representatives from industry, TAFE and government will be invited to attend the Industry/Presentation Dinner on the last evening of the competition.
